PERTH and Kinross Council primary schools will be taking part in a range of arts events throughout February.
Visiting teachers of expressive arts in primary schools will hold a series of workshops to compliment the ‘Healthy Hearts’ health and wellbeing weeks that will be held in schools from Monday to Friday until February 20. The workshops will take place in over 50 schools throughout Perth and Kinross and will include ‘Samba Samba’ activities led by visiting music teachers. Dance will also be incorporated into some of the workshops. Art and design, and drama teachers will also be running activities linked to ‘Healthy Hearts’.
On Friday, February 20, 61 P1–P7 children from the area’s smaller primary schools will take part in a special event between 10am and 2pm at Pitlochry Festival Theatre, on the theme of ‘Scottish Soldiers Through the Ages’. Participating schools are Blair Atholl, Struan, Strone of Cally, Blairingone, Kinloch Rannoch, Glenlyon, Struan and Straloch. Children will learn about history and the role of soldiers with a range of activities including art workshops, using musical instruments, stage combat and storytelling.
The event will be led by Drew Scott of PFT, the Music Development Officer at Horsecross, the Council’s Expressive Arts Co-ordinator and expressive arts staff. The final presentation will take place in the Explorers Garden at the theatre.
