Pupils sing out with Vocalease

MORE than 1000 Big County primary pupils took part in Perth Concert Hall’s Vocalease singing days.

The majority of schools involved selected a song of their own choice to perform on stage and, with a Homecoming theme to the event this year, a number of schools chose Scottish songs.

Burrelton Primary School’s ‘Island Spinning Song’, and ‘Caledonia’ also proved a popular choice.

All the participants sang a selection of works chosen by a group of visiting music teachers, with staff leading a morning preparatory session before Perth and Kinross Council’s instrumental music co-ordinator and instructors took pupils through a number of songs, including a Scottish medley.

Vocalease was rounded off with a rousing rendition of ‘Highland Cathedral’ sung by all the children, led by two talented young pipers from Perth Academy, Alex Duncan and Eireann Ianetta-MacKay.

Provost John Hulbert said: “It gave me great pleasure to hear the performances by our pupils, and to witness the talents and enjoyment displayed.”
