Perth and Kinross Council disputes ‘unisex loo’ plans for new schools

EDUCATION bosses yesterday slated “misleading” press reports that toilets in the new campus secondary schools will be unisex.

They issued a statement following reports that pupils of all ages and both sexes will share the same amenity at the Strathearn community campus which is set to replace the old Crieff High School.

A spokeswoman said: “Perth and Kinross Council has overhauled the design of toilets in the new campus secondary schools to address the need for increased visibility and counteract bullying and anti-social behaviour.

“Separate male and female cubicles are provided with a communal wash station which is part of an open area. This takes account of the recommendations of the Building Schools for the Future (BSF) Programme 2007.”

Campus Leader and Headteacher of Crieff High School, Christine Ross, added: “This is just one aspect of the innovative design being used at the campus which I believe will enhance the life and work of the school.”
