Brown opens school for old friend

Prime Minister Gordon Brown broke away from affairs of state on Thursday to fulfil a promise to an old school chum.

He travelled from Fife to the Clydeside town of Port Glasgow to officially open the town's showpiece new £10 million Newark Primary School.

Headteacher Lillian Hasson was in the same year as Mr Brown when both were pupils at Kirkcaldy High School in Fife.
