Cameron issues 'backyard' challenge

Prime Minister Gordon Brown has faced Tory calls to turn up and campaign at a forthcoming by-election in his "own backyard".

Tory leader David Cameron pledged to visit Glenrothes in the race for the seat which became vacant after the recent death of Labour's John MacDougall.

The Tories have announced their candidate is to be former student leader Maurice Golden. And Mr Cameron said: "I will be campaigning and supporting Maurice on the streets of Glenrothes.
