The Scottish Government has been granted powers to take greater control of coastal waters.
The decision allows Holyrood to take charge of marine planning, energy development and conservation out to 200 nautical miles. The deal between Scottish and UK ministers extends the previous 12 nautical-mile limit. Fisheries secretary Richard Lochhead announced the deal to MSPs in the Scottish Parliament.
He said: "It will support the Scottish economy by enabling us to manage marine resources coherently. Let's be clear - this is good news for our fishermen, our other marine industries and our precious marine environment.
