BULLDOZERS could be the next big show at Auchterarder’s former cinema if a planning application to demolish the town centre building gets the go-ahead.
Glasgow-based developer Christopher Kasiewicz has asked Perth and Kinross Council for permission to knock down the Regal Cinema building, now used as a showroom, and replace it with two blocks of flats.
According to plans, the new building would be “in keeping” with the existing cinema building. It is proposed there will be 11 two or three-bedroomed flats, 12 parking spaces and a new access road.
The Regal Cinema opened its doors in 1927 and 549 people could sit before the big screen inside the art-deco picture house.Sadly the cinema closed its doors in 1963. The projectors and cash desk were donated to the Scottish Archive at Glasgow and the building at Auchterarder’s Townhead has latterly been used as a showroom for antiques.
