REVITALISED rock legend Ray Davies is set to bring his collection of classic songs to Perth this weekend.
The former Kinks frontman will play Perth Concert Hall in a re-arranged date following the postponement of a previously scheduled appearance last October.
Davies was forced to scrub his autumn UK tour following a bout of ill-health, but now fully recovered, fans can look forward to a memorable Friday night at the Fair City’s showpiece venue.
After founding The Kinks with his brother Dave in 1963, Davies’ string of hits began with the guitar anthem, You Really Got Me.
One of the most influential, prolific and long-lived of the original British Invasion bands, The Kinks went on to achieve massive success over the next two decades.
Highlights of the London outfit’s spectacular career included All Day and All of the Night, Waterloo Sunset, Lola, Sunny Afternoon and Dedicated Follower of Fashion.
Davies’ songwriting has often been acclaimed as more mature, sophisticated and subtle than that of many of his peers.
Often referred to as the “greatest humanist in rock,” his songs frequently depict poignant dramas involving everyday people and boast an idiosyncratic quality that has won The Kinks a massive cult following over the years.
Throughout his career, he has also been considered the most singularly ‘English’ of all major songwriters of his generation, consistently using an English – sometimes Cockney – accent.
Davies released his latest acclaimed solo album Other People’s Lives earlier this year and will perform with a full band on Friday, starting 8pm.
The gig’s almost sold out, but a handful of seated tickets remain and can be obtained by calling 0845 612 6324.
