WORK has started on a village hall project – more than 15 years after plans to build a new extension on to the existing Victorian building were first mooted.
After a series of funding and planning setbacks, Glenfarg is now looking forward to the opening of its new hall in the spring thanks to a successful international fundraising appeal which raised more than £350,000 for the project.
A further cash injection came last month from local firm Binn Skips in a donation worth around £15,000, an award of £7150 from Lloyds TSB to equip the new kitchen to high catering standards for the new-look Glenfarg Public Hall, and £10,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation, in London.
Pierette Melville, secretary of the Glenfarg Public Hall Association, said: “We are very grateful to our latest funders for their support. Their kind donations, and all those we’ve received during our major fundraising drive, will help ensure we have a first-class venue for Glenfarg.”
