WITH only one week of fixtures remaining, Scone appear to be favourites to lift the Super League Trophy in the Perthshire Rugby Club Touch in the Park competition.
An unbeaten 11-game record means that they can only be caught by the young players from Dollar.
But the pace and guile of the Scone outfit should prove too strong for their final opponents, Scottish and Southern, Campus and Scone 2, who have only registered one win each in their campaigns.
Scottish Hydro, Flying “v” and W`Beater will battle until the bitter end to avoid the relegation position but the Hydro side appear to face the more difficult run-in with fixtures against the two sides who are still in contention for the Social League title.
Six teams are still battling for the Social League title and with the bonus score system for any gains against Super League opposition, the result looks as if it is to be decided in the final round of games.
The Mullets top the league and have shown a very good defensive pattern in their recent games, as well as finishing power.
With two fixtures remaining and the chance for only three bonus points, they seem likely to be overtaken by any one of the following three – Glenalmond School, UnTouchables and the Colts.
The latter two have four ties remaining and six bonus points available but both bids seems difficult as both are facing two of the top Super Teams.
Those in the know seem to be backing the young and vibrant squad from Glenalmond School who continue to impress.
They have four fixtures remaining and would be expected to pick up the six bonus points on offer from the two Super League teams at the bottom of their table.
But watch out for the Waterboys 2 squad. They have shown strong performances in their last three games and they will provide stiff opposition for Glenalmond in their penultimate game.
At the foot of the table there is a four-way scrap to avoid the bottom position but the Scottish and Southern v. Campus tie should decide who will take the wooden spoon.
Permutations at the top and bottom of the leagues are too many to mention but it all points to a very exciting night at the North Inch on Tuesday.
The presentation of the trophies and players’ awards will be made in the Rugby Club bar after all the fixtures have been completed.
