Horse racing: Perth Racecourse goes pink for Breakthrough Breast Cancer

AS the 2010 racing season at Perth Racecourse draws nearer, the course looks set to attract racegoers clad top to toe in pink – in partnership with Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The tapes go up on the season on Wednesday, April 21 – the first day of the hugely popular three-day Perth Festival Meeting.

And Perth Racecourse is delighted to announce that this year’s Ladies’ Day on Thursday, May 13, will – in addition to fashion, flamboyance and fun – raising awareness and money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK's leading charity committed to fighting breast cancer.

To mark the partnership between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Ladies’ Day, pink will be the winning colour. Racegoers are invited to dress in pink and the ladies as they vie for the coveted title of ‘Best Pink Outfit’.

2010 will feature another new highlight – the Perth 800 raceday. This special race fixture on Saturday, August 21, offers a fun family day out with themed historic activities including jousting, a re-enactment of King William 1st presenting the Royal Charter to Perth and prizes awarded for the most suitably dressed racegoer.

Proving itself to be a varied and dynamic course, Perth will also host two evening events – Rock at the Races taking place on Thursday, May 12, and The Perth Party Night on Tuesday, July 27. With competitive afternoon races and live evening entertainment both evening events see Perth Racecourse confirm itself as a location not only for avid racing fans, but also for those looking for a fun night out.

Perth Racecourse general manager Sam Morshead commented: “The 2010 season promises to be an exciting season with a diverse calendar of racing events.

“Having enjoyed a good 2009 season, we anticipate 2010 to be even more popular. With corporate hospitality for Gold Cup Day in May already sold out, it’s really great to see ticket sales that demonstrate that people are definitely looking forward to the 2010 season.”
