Major bowling championships roll into Perth

PERTH will play host to the Joint British Isles Indoor Bowling and Home International Series over the next week as part of the Perth 800 celebrations.

The event will be held from March 11–19,at Dewar's Centre, which boasts an eight-rink world class indoor bowling arena.

The event is split into three separate tournaments. The Men’s Home International Series is first with Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales playing against each other for the Home International Title, which started yesterday (Thursday).

The joint British Isles Championships start on Sunday with the winners of the Ladies and Gents Indoor Bowling Championships in Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and Channel Islands participating in junior singles and singles play, pairs, triples, rinks and men’s senior fours. The British final of all 11 events takes place on the Tuesday.

This is then followed on Wednesday, March 17, by the Ladies Home International Series with Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales playing against each other for the Home International Title.

Admission to spectators throughout the tournament will be £4 per day.

Provost John Hulbert welcomed the competition to Perth, saying: “It is fantastic that Perth has been able to attract this prestigious sporting event as part of our Perth 800 celebrations.

“I would like to extend a warm Fair City welcome to bowlers from all over the UK, along with their friends and families. I trust they will have a very enjoyable stay.

“This will be a great spectacle for bowling fans, with some of the best British players on show. I would urge bowling fans to go along and cheer on the players.

"It is also a superb showcase for the superb local bowling facilities we have here in Perth at Dewar's."
