Amateurs: Scottish Cup takes centre stage on amateur scene

THERE are a number of all-Perthshire affairs in the second round of the Scottish Cup this weekend, the last stage of the competition before the prestigious national draw.

First Division pair St John’s and Craigie will go into battle with the latter looking to avenge their six-goal drubbing earlier in the season.

Balmoral Utd head to Vale of Atholl following a 2-0 win against their opponents in the league last week.

Jeanfield Swifts, who appear to be in fine fettle now they’re over a mini slump, head north to Aberfeldy and could shock Breadalbane.

While Kinrossie will look to become giant killers away to Auchterarder.

Burrelton host Dundee College, while Letham await the Uni Medics, who are also travelling from the City of Discovery.

A couple of crackers are on offer at both Invergowrie and Wellbank, who await Alyth and Roselea respectively.

Morgan FP have the longest distance to travel, as they’re bound for Pitlochry and Vale of Atholl.

The amusingly-named Cannon Fodder travel to Third Division pace-setters Newtyle.

Newport’s visit to Coupar Angus should be a hotly-contested affair.

Aside from cup competitions, there are also three league games on the card this week – with none coming any bigger than Bridgeton Utd’s visit to bottom side, Bridge of Earn.

Both clubs are battling to stay in the league, so a win is crucial.

In form Letham Lads host Tay Thistle, still smarting after their North of Tay Cup exit to Broughty last week.

Last up in Division Three, Strathearn Grove head to Glenfarg for what could be a shoot-out for third place in the league.

The monthly meeting is on Tuesday (October 19) in Luncarty Juniors’ social club, from 7.30pm.
