Gavin Dear heading for Murcia

GAVIN Dear has enjoyed further success on the Alps Tour.

The Perthshire rookie pro finished second in the latest event in Madrid, to retain fourth spot in the Order of Merit.

After many attempts to resume the third round of the Peugeot Open de Madrid foundered, tournament officials decided to cancel last round. The golf course was unplayable due to heavy rain.

Austrian Uli Weinhandl was deemed winner of the tournament as he was leading after two rounds by four strokes.

Murrayshall man Gavin has his sights set on the second stage of the qualifying school for the European Tour.

He and fellow Walker Cup player Wallace Booth head for Murcia in Spain in late November as they chase a spot in the line-up bidding for a coveted card at the third stage in Catalonia.

Meanwhile, Comrie man Wallace has been invited to make an appearance on the Italian Challenge Tour to keep him in shape for Murcia.
