Rowan Vine yesterday revealed St Johnstone have an option to tie him down for another year in Perth.
The English centre, who featured in the 1-0 win over derby rivals Dundee, admits he’d love to extend his stay in Scotland.
“I’ve signed a year, with an option of another year for the club. They’ve got up to a certain point to take up that option, so it’s not something I’m thinking about just now,” he said.
“I’d be happy to stay here. I’m enjoying it. I’d been out of the team for a couple of games before Dundee but I’m back in and I want to stay there.
“It wasn’t the greatest of games and the performance wasn’t what we wanted, but a win’s a win. The most important thing for both teams was the three points, and we got them. It was vital for us to get that result going into the break.”
Saints’ next game is away to Motherwell on Sunday, January 20, and Vine admitted: “I’ll head back south and see the kids. I think we’re back in on Thursday ready to go again.
“I’ve never had two weeks off during the season like this. I’ve been suspended before and been out for two weeks but that’s a bit different.
“It will be interesting to see who it benefits. All the teams will do things slightly differently. Some might train more than others. We’ll be looking to come back refreshed and kick on with a few wins.”
With conjecture surrounding Perth players, Vine noted: “Obviously it’s not ideal to have people out of contract in the summer when we’re doing pretty well. That means there will be interest. I don’t know much about it but that’s what seems to be happening. People will talk.
“We don’t want to be losing anybody, especially players who have been regulars. We want to keep the squad together and add quality if we can.”
