THE biggest smiles spotted at Perth Races on Sunday were being sported by perceptive punters who had backed 22-1 outsider Brooklyn Brownie to capture the Langvale Homes Gold Cup, in a feature race carrying a total prize pot of £25,000.
It was the most generously rated winner of the prestigious trophy, heading off a challenge from Snoopy Loopy and third placed Megaton.
There was also cause for celebration at the Normile yard at Glenfarg.
Lucy Normile’s 9-1 rated English City rewarded racegoers trusting to a local trainer.
Yesterday, racecourse manager Sam Morshead said: “We had 11,600 this year and that was a great turn-out, especially with the weather deteriorating after a fine morning.
“But there was some fine racing for the crowd and anyone who backed Brooklyn Brownie certainly wouldn’t be bothered about the weather!
“It was a great day and more than £100,000 was taken at the Tote.”
