THERE is still no sign of any sizeable buzzer hatch at Loch Leven and, as a result, the evenings see little or no fish up on the top.
That said, on Saturday evening, from 11-11.30pm, a few fish came up and some success was had fishing dries. But most of the "action" was very sub-surface.
July is usually when the big yellow owl (Curly Bums) appear. The yellow owl is a member of the buzzer family (chironomid), so hopefully we will see some hatches of these big juicy flies to get the fish nearer the surface.
Water clarity remains good at 3.4 metres, weed growth, as mentioned last week, is prolific, especially in one-three metres of water.
The temperature has remained fairly steady at 15.6°C, courtesy of the cool days and chilly nights.
Best areas are much the same as last week: Reed Bower, Carden Point, Green Isle to Old Manse Bay and Scart to North Buoy.
The Di 7 and Di 5 lines are probably still the best lines.
But some of the sparkler patterns – black and silver are the best combination of colours – are taking some nice baskets of really fat fish.
When the conditions permit, dries and buzzers are also taking fish.
On Friday evening Jim Barclay had a beautiful fish at 3lbs 11ozs, Jim has fished the Loch hard all season and his diligence paid off – well done Jim.
Also Sylvia Todd, on Saturday morning, had a lovely fish weighing 4lb 15oz, caught just off the Reed Bower on a Dunkeld Sparkler. Sylvia was fishing with Kinross AC who had a total of nine fish for 21lb 8oz.
