PERTH City Swim Club master swimmer Sandy Galletly won three gold medals at the recent GB Open Masters’ Long Course Championships in Manchester.
Sandy now competes in the 65–69 years age group and was successful in the 400m, 800m and 1500m freestyle events.
As a member of the Norwich Union Healthworks fitness centre during the past 20 years, he had used the swimming pool for his daily training sessions. With the recent closure, Sandy had thought his swimming career was over.
However, with the continued support of Perth and Kinross Sports Council, Perth City Swim Club, the headmaster of Kilgraston School and swimming pool manager Gary Vandermeullen, he is still competing – and winning.
