Kinross are Top Club winners

HIGH-SCORING Kinross have been named as one of the first two Scottish clubs to receive top accreditation from Cricket Scotland.

The new Top Club silver award, a key part of the governing body’s development programme, has gone to the Big County set-up and Huntly Highlanders.

Both clubs qualified for the accolade after meeting strict criteria, which included having the appropriate number of level-two qualified coaches, opportunities for girls to play, a volunteering strategy in place and partnerships with at least four local schools.

Steve Paige, Cricket Scotland’s national community development manager, said the initiative was created to help individual clubs develop talent at grassroots level and support all players.

“These are the first cricket clubs in Scotland to receive the silver award,” he said yesterday.

“The teams at both clubs have worked hard to achieve the criteria and the benefits will be felt across all areas of each club.”

Kinross, who operate out of the palatial surrounds of Kinross House, received their award at last Thursday’s match between Scotland and New Zealand in Aberdeen.

Established in 2005, there are over 60 clubs involved in the Top Club programme.
