SEVEN players from Saints Table Tennis Club took part in last week’s Scottish U15 assessment at Tranent.
Again it was the girls who shone brightest. Ciara Hayes had a good start to the day winning her group with an excellent win over Dumfries’ Rene Ho. Ciara’s good form continued all day with fine wins in a very tough competition which saw her achieve a No 4 Scottish ranking. Ten year old Fiona Scott also played very well with her best win of the day a 3-0 whitewash of Stirling’s Jennifer Hart. A ranking of seven for one so young is a fine achievement.
In the boys event Scott Bissett made a shaky start with a loss to West Lothian youngster Alex Duff in a match which Scott will feel he should have won. From there on it was uphill and Scott lost the final match of the morning session to Robbie Fairley (Edinburgh).
Alastair Scott performed best for the Perth boys coming through his group in second place to compete for positions 9-16. In the afternoon he had a notable win over Connor Moran form the Drumchapel Club. Alex Duff returned to haunt the Saints boys with an 11-9 in the fifth end win over Alastair.
Final positions for the boys were – Alastair Scott 11, Scott Bissett 18, Paul Jarvie 20, Greg Meiklem 26, Shaun Robertson 27.
