Perth Phoenix Senior Men 78
RGU 46
THIS tie was played at Perth Academy because Aberdeen based RGU could not find a suitable venue.
The Fair City side used their home court advantage to the full, putting on an excellent team display, with every player making a positive contribution.
The fact they were able to stifle a fast and athletic RGU side so comprehensively is testament to the hard work they put in.
Perth built a solid 14 point lead by half time, and then extended this with a superb 29-2 scoring run as the match moved into the start of the final period.
Russel Kesson was top scorer and hit 23 points for Pheonix, narrowly pipping Drew Summerton who netted 22.
Perth Phoenix Senior Women60
Glasgow Storm44
GLASGOW Storm played an experienced team, but they were thwarted by an extremely spirited performance by the Perth team.
In the opening exchanges, Amanda Wilson hit a series of important baskets that allowed Phoenix to build a 29-18 lead by half time.
She was ably supported by Claire Watson who, in addition to hitting a team high 21 points, turned in a very effective defensive display which inspired her team-mates.
Storm found it very difficult to penetrate the Perth rearguard.
It was notable that Jo Trodden taking a large number of defensive rebounds for Phoenix.
The final score, which was a very comfortable 60-44 win for Perth, probably unstated their overall dominance in the match.
