THE Kinross area table tennis championships held at Kinross High School produced some fine play from a large entry.
Jamie Bode, Mark Cathro, Callum Baker and Ruaridh Souter all did well to reach the last eight and they all show promise for the future.
In the semi-final of the competition, Elsbeth Young and Mitchell Brown went head to head in what was to be the match of the day.
Both youngsters played their socks off – and provided great match performances.
Mitchell took the first end 11–6, but Elsbeth showed great determination to come back taking the second 11–7.
The final set was very exciting with both players displaying high quality table tennis before Mitchell won by the narrowest of margins 14–12.
The other semi-final was also a close affair with Andrew Sorbie pushing Murray Raeburn all the way.
In the final, Murray showed why he is the current No 1 player in Kinross, playing some first class strokes he was too strong for Mitchell taking the game 2–0.
Perhaps Mitchell was drained after his titanic struggle with Elsbeth.
There is little doubt that before long these Kinross youngsters will be making their mark at national level.
