Highland Games: Weigh in for Games

THE Perthshire Highland Games Association has weighed in with a series of training days for the 2009 Highland Games season.

The first takes place in Pitlochry on Sunday.

Free coaching is available with top Scottish athletes. Bruce Robb and Gregor Edmunds will command the first training sessions at the Recreation Ground and at the Atholl Leisure Centre.

This year the training days will take the form of two hours in the gym with Bruce and two hours throwing with Gregor.

Athletes should meet at the Pavilion in the Recreation Ground at 10.15am for a sharp start.

The afternoon session will start at 1.30pm. Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available in the Pavilion, but take along a packed lunch.

Anyone who would like to learn the technique for caber tossing, hammer throwing, shot putting and weight throwing, and for weight training specific to these events, is welcome to come along.
