BIG County youngsters inspired by Andy Murray’s exploits are being encouraged to hit the trail to Wimbledon.
The HSBC Road to Wimbledon National 14 and Under Challenge, the largest national junior grass court tournament of its kind, gives young players from all of the country the opportunity to compete at a local, county and national level.
Last year, Emma Devine from Edinburgh defeated Sophie Morrill from Middlesex 6-4, 6-0 in the girl’s final.
Four finalists were lucky enough to take part in the very first HSBC Sporting Exchange in November.
They were flown to Shanghai where, under the expert guidance of Bjorn Borg, they tested themselves against equally promising youngsters from the Shanghai area.
The closing date for this year’s competition is January 30 and entries need to be sent to area tournament organisers.
