IT’S been another memorable year for Perth and Kinross sport – and now it’s time for the public and local clubs to nominate their favourites.
It’s time to step up to the plate and nominate contenders for the prestigious annual awards presented by Perth and Kinross Sports Council with key sponsorship from The Guildry Incorporation of Perth.
Bob Ellis, chairman of Perth and Kinross Sports Council stated: “Our annual Sports Personality of the Year Awards event is drawing closer. It will be staged on March 1.
“We would clubs to make a nomination or nominations to us for the various awards that are available. They can be for individuals or the club as a whole.
“The Highland Spring Junior Award is always by far the most keenly contested award but we would like the other categories to be just as popular.
“In the past we have put out the forms and had them printed in the local media. But it is always the last minute when nomination forms come in and this results in a rather large headache for the judges.
“I am aware that it states on the form that you have until January 24 but we would rather have the headache sooner than later this year - so please put the thinking caps now get those forms in.”
The various categories are: Sports Personality of the Year Award. This award is made to a sportsperson, 18 or over as at 31 December, representing Perth and Kinross or residing within, who has achieved outstanding success in their sport during 2009; Young Sports Person of the Year Award. Nominees should be under 18 at 31 December and should be a resident or representative of Perth and Kinross; Coach of the Year Award; The Merit Award is made to the individual or team who has shown the greatest degree or endeavour in their sport during 2009; Disability Sport Achievement Award for individuals or teams; Team of the Year Award; Perth and Kinross Council's George Mortimer Memorial Trophy for Service to Local Sports for a coach, official or volunteer who has made an outstanding contribution to local sport over a lengthy period.
