A FINAL call has been issued to help breathe new life into Perth and Kinross’s badminton set-up
An open meeting is being held at 7.15pm on January 20 inside Bell’s Sports Centre’s meeting room.
Organisers are asking the public to come up with ways to attract many of the sport’s unofficial players into the local leagues, where numbers have taken a downturn in recent years.
Ian Brown, president of the Perth and District Badminton Association, explained the advantages of either joining or setting-up an officially-affiliated club.
He said: “Whilst there will be additional costs, there is financial help available for any new club joining the league.
“For example, in the first year, the affiliation fee to BADMINTONscotland will be reduced by anything from 50 to 100 per cent.
“Heavily-discounted shuttlecocks are also available for purchase through the association for use on club nights and in league matches,” he said.

The first post-Christmas matches in the Campus Sports Perth and District Badminton Leagues took place at a snowy Bell’s Sports Centre recently and, in the First Division, the top two teams continued winning.
League leaders, the 20 Club, managed a 17-1 win over Taybank B, who played with a lady short.
Scone triumphed 11-7 over Taybank A in the other First Division match on the night.
In the second tier, Kinross continued their unbeaten run with a 14-4 victory over Crieff.
With Forgandenny recording a 13 - 5 win over Auchterarder, this resulted moved Kinross four points clear at the top of the table.
The other two matches in the division resulted in walkovers for Bankfoot and Perth Nomads, as Allan Centre and Strathallan were unable to field teams.
After the next round of matches, the Second Division will be split for remaining three ties of the season.
