Basketball: Perth Phoenix had mixed fortunes at Scottish National League

ONLY two of the Perth Phoenix were in action over the weekend in the Scottish National league with mixed fortunes for the club.

The Cadette Women travelled West on Saturday to face Glasgow City.

The teams have met twice already in the league this season with the series tied at one game each. Phoenix travelled with only seven players for this game and were up against it – they battled through to the end but City proved too strong as they won comfortably by 28pts at 76–48.

Top scorer for Phoenix was Katy Brown with 24pts.

Phoenix Junior Men were in action on Saturday against local rivals, Arbroath Musketeer's.

This is the third time the team have met this season with Phoenix coming out on top in both previous games. Phoenix went into the game with a heavily depleted squad due to injury and illness and had to call up three cadet players to give them a squad.

This was not evident in a game which saw them win 71–61.

Top scorer for Phoenix was Ben Warrington with 19pts although special mention should go to Peter McDougall who played through illness and contributed 12pts and did a fantastic defensive job on Musketeers main scoring threat.

There were two other games through the week. The Junior Men lost out to St Andrews University in the local league competition in a very poor game in Fife.

Neither team played well in the game, but St Andrews did enough to win the game 52–41.

In the other fixture of the week, Phoenix Senior Women's team defeated their main rivals in a thrilling game at Perth Academy.

The teams are tied at the top of the league as Phoenix avenged their early season loss, winning this game by 67–66.

This weekend the senior men are in action on Friday night against main rivals, Abertay University.

This game tips off at Perth Academy at 8pm.

On Saturday, the Junior Men host City of Edinburgh Kings in the Scottish Cup semi final. The game tips-off at 3pm at Perth Academy.
