YOUNG Perth City swimmers made a splash in the Scottish U-11 competition at Dundee.
The club’s 28 athletes included Freya Thomson, who produced an excellent swim to claim a silver medal in the nine-year-olds’ 50m butterfly final in 42.9 seconds.
However, the star performer was Kirsty Pitts, who reached the final of all four events in the 10 years age group.
She bagged fifth place in the breaststroke, but then went on to claim a full set of medals with bronze in the butterfly, silver in backstroke and gold in the 50m freestyle.
Ellen Davie and Finlay MacIntosh, who finished fourth in the breaststroke and butterfly respectively, were presented with finalists’ ribbons – Christie Morrison went home with a brace after a fifth in the butterfly and sixth in backstroke.
After an absence of several years, Perth City has rejoined the Tayside Swimming Leagues and is set to compete in a series of friendly galas.
Coaches were impressed by all athletes involved in their Division II opener in Montrose. The next round of the five-gala series is at Perth Leisure Pool on April 24.
Fair City swimmers won 50 individual golds, 18 silvers and 21 bronzes at the annual Scottish Amateur Swimming Association Midland District Age Group and Open Championships.
A brace of team golds, as well as five silver and six bronzes were secured in relays.
Record-breaking performances secured 13 of the 22 district trophies. Full results can be found at www.perthcityswimclub.com
