THERE was plenty to keep motorsport fans entertained at the Cowdenbeath racewall over the weekend, with shunts, cars riding the wall, and some close finishes all on show.
Many local drivers were amongst the 19 Formula II drivers at the track, including Garry Sime (Newtyle) and Holly Glen (Inchture).
The first race of the evening was a qualifying round for the white/yellow series and whilst Ally Noble won from Glen and Ewan Ewart, Gregor Turner found himself clear, only to have to coast out of the race when his throttle cable broke. Heat one ended with Chris Burgoyne winning from Gordon Moodie and Wagner, with Glen in seventh and Wilson eighth.
In heat two it was Moodie who led Burgoyne and Turner to the line, with Sime in fifth and Wilson in tenth place.
The final had to be stopped after Middler and MacMillan Jnr ended up resting against the wall.
The restart was equally brief as Sime’s car shed a wheel.
On the restart, Burgoyne was running ahead of Moodie and they caught and passed Turner during the closing stages of the race to give Burgoyne his second win of the night – whilst Turner had to fend-off a late attack by Wagner for third, with Glen crossing the line in seventh place.
Moodie came through to win the Grand National from Sime and Dawson, with Burgoyne in sixth place, Glen eighth, and Wilson ninth.
Ryan Forbes (Stanley) and Neil McLaughlin (Auchterarder) were in the thick of the action during the highly-competitive Saloon series later in the same meeting.
There was a good turnout of Prostox drivers. In the All-comers race, Tam Ross picked-up his first win of the night crossing the line clear of Ian Donaldson Jnr and Gordon Brown.
On Saturday (May 8) the Formula IIs are joined by the Stock Rods, Minis and two-litre Banger drivers for the usual 6pm start.
