FOUR boats took to the water on May 28 for the last race to count towards the Spring Series in dry conditions accompanied by a strong westerly force 4 gusting 5.

Despite a dry capsize, Collin Fullerton in his Solo maintained his position ahead of Andrew Porteous who unfortunately was forced to retire due to rudder damage after the first round of the course.

Second over the line was Alan Jones crewed by Robin MacArthur in the Club Kestrel with Oliver Williams in third in his Otter.

Due to increased wind speed the second race of the day was cancelled.

Five boats entered for the first race of the long summer Points Series in an easterly wind force 2-3.

It was a clean start with Bob Watson in his Laser first over the line, though Graham Keir soon rectified that by overtaking and maintaining lead position throughout the race.

A large ship Fri Stav from Nasau came through the fleet after fifteen minutes and with wind dropping the course was shortened to three rounds, the Sanwell's Wanderer retiring after two rounds.

Bob and Allan were neck and neck for much of the race, Bob just managing to keep ahead of Allan over the line.

The same five boats entered for the second race of the day in which the sun came out briefly and the wind increased slightly to give nice brisk sailing conditions.

Unfortunately the Wanderer collided with the Feva during the race incurring a penalty turn while Graham's Solo romped over the finish a good three minutes before Bob in second place followed by Allan in third position.

Three boats took to the water for Sunday's racing in cloudy and cool conditions with an easterly force 3 and gusting.

The race started well with Gary Tait in his Laser sporting a radial sail taking the lead by the first mark of a triangular course. It was a close race between the Dalgety and Williamson Albacores for second place, but the Dalgety Albacore crewed by father Patrick and crewed by daughter Rachel took it at the line.

While daughter Katriona practised her skills in the Ood Box, her father practised his sailing skills in a Club Feva while Peter Thriepland crewed by John Selwyn-Gilbert in the Club Mirror were supervised over by the safety officer of the day, Bob Watson also offering the occasional advice in the somewhat brisk conditions.

The same four boats entered the second race of the day which was reduced to three rounds due to a downturn in the conditions, blustery and raining.

John Ferguson joined the race in his Streaker and took the lead to the first mark but was soon overtaken by Gary. There was nailbiting tension as a tussle took place between the Dalgety and Williamson Albacores to see who would cross the line in second place, but it was Patrick who pipped Hunter to the post.
