Busy times at Scone Tennis Club

SCONE Tennis Club have had a busy time lately with the completion of their annual senior club championships.

The club champions for this season are Derek Adam and Rod Purcell for the mens doubles, Linda Browne and Fiona Bruce for the Ladies Doubles and Shaun McIntosh for the gents singles.

The junior championships are currently ongoing and the club have possibly had a record entry for this event.

As the summer season draws to a close the club has had a record number of teams playing in the local leagues and overall this has meant more value for membership for all those concerned.

Winter tennis is planned to continue at Scone and from October 1 all fees will be on offer at 50 per cent to any new members.

Local leagues will also be invited to take part in the forthcoming STC Winter League – weather permitting of course.

The annual club dinner will be held towards the end of October. This will probably be at North Port Restaurant on Friday 28 with the agm taking place on Sunday, October 30.

The club facilities have gone from strength to strength over the last few years and this season has seen a colourful mini tennis court and ‘hitting wall’ being added to the impressive setting.

The facility will allow youngsters and adults to play tennis, while the main courts are being used for matches or adult play and the ‘hitting wall’ is the first of its type in Scotland.

One happy group that uses the facility on a Friday have called themselves the Active Andys – after their hero Andy Murray – and they are coached by club member Calvin Brewitt LTA Level 2 Assistant, with help from the club’s president Fiona Bruce.

Tennis Scotland has also been invited on site to see first hand what has been happening at Scone of late.
