World champion David Gourlay heads for Blackford

WEST Perthshire bowlers have said they are “delighted” after it was revealed that multiple world champion David Gourlay is set to hold a roadshow in Blackford next week.

The Glasgow-based star, who has topped the sport’s global rankings six times and represented Scotland all over the world, is to host a workshop at Blackford Bowling Club on Monday from 2pm.

He will also deliver seven new sets of bowls, which will be used by the club’s 95 members during their West Perthshire Bowling Association league fixtures, as well as other competitions.

Jackie Watson, secretary of the Moray Street club, explained the new equipment has been secured through a grant from a community development fund associated with the G West resort, earmarked for the outskirts of the village by property firm Ochil Developments.

She said: “We were awarded £870 recently to buy six sets of bowls, but we struck a deal with Mr Gourlay that means we’re getting an extra one for an additional £5.

“He’ll be coming to the club at 2pm on Monday afternoon to do a demonstration, and we’re hoping a representative from the fund will be coming later in the day to do a cheque presentation.

“Anyone’s welcome to come along on the day, you don’t have to be a member of the club to take part.”
