Perthshire Amateurs

ON Scottish Cup duty, it was Methven who drew first blood in an all Perthshire first round tie through McMahon, but Sherrit levelled by the break.

Nicoll scored after half time for the visitors but a double by Cargill secured another local second round tie v the Primrose.

Errol were hit for an unlucky 13 by Arbroath and both Stanley and Star fell at the first hurdle to Bank Street and Letham Lads respectively.

All three League cup play off ties were very close affairs as Letham were the only outright winners in 90 minutes by the odd goal in three over Ballinluig.

Almondvale took Alyth to extra time before going down to two strikes without reply and finally Breadalbane knocked out the cup holders Roselea 4–3 on penalties after both teams could not be separated after 120 minutes of play.

There was a distinct shortage of goals in division one as the Brig and St Johns ended goalless and Auchterarder with a lone header from Watson stole all three points at the Vale to go joint top.

In division two a flying start from Vale with goals from Jamieson, a Thorne double and an own goal had them four up in 25mins.

Thistle pulled a goal back, but Vale added another two in the second half – both headers from corners through Jamieson again and Taylor.

Kinrossie made no mistake at home to Letham United controlling this tie from the start for maximum points. Maximum points on the board for Burrelton also and they hit Wolfhill for three without reply to keep their 100 per cent start intact. Division three could be the tightest in years as Newtyle went top with a good home win over an under strength Meigle. Kettins and Villareal could not be separated sharing six goals and Letham Lads left it late at home to Rattray with two goals in the last 15 minutes to keep in touch at the top. Finally, a rejuvenated Gateway returned and impressed with a four goal blitz of the hapless Perth Royale to get their first points on the board.

BRIDGETON United (sponsored by the Ormond Bar, Perth) – there is training tonight at Almondbank, 6.30pm (training equipment sponsored by Raads Garage).
