Perthshire Amateurs Oct 7

ON Scottish Cup duty, Villareal were a goal up after 60 minutes. They were in control and heading to the third round until two contentious offside decisions went against them and they never recovered.

Letham Utd. overcame their poor recent form as they advanced with a good win over Letham Lads’ Club in a game played at a fast and furious pace.

Auchterarder controlled their tie against Methven with Robertson netting a hat- trick, supported by Kirkcaldy, Burke and Proff as they advanced.

So did Breadalbane after strike duo Price (2) and Carson sealed their win. An extra bonus for the committee saw Stewart back from a three-year injury lay off to score on his return. Coupar Angus, Roselea, Letham and Vale of Earn, from the First Division, all advanced after good wins, with a Reilly hat- trick for the Vale standing out.

Many Perthshire teams fell at the first hurdle and were disappointed, none more so than Letham Lads who recovered from losing two goals in the first 10 minutes to be level by the break.

Unfortunately, Barnhill were too strong in the second-half ,edging this tie by the odd goal in five.

Six clubs will try their luck again this week in replays after Meigle battled hard for another shot at Michelin and St John’s struggled and were lucky to get a trip to Dundee to face Caird Park again.

All Perthshire ties involving Almondvale and Vale of Atholl and Burrelton and the Brig will be played again this week, spoiling their players chances of cheering on the national team at Hampden.
