Perth and District Amateurs Oct 21

A BETTER weekend was enjoyed by Perthshire clubs in the North of Tay Cup at the weekend.

Despite Letham, Wolfhill and Fairfield falling at the first hurdle, both Auchterarder, with Proff, Deans and Robertson on target, and Burrelton, with the result of the day against Carnoustie, are rewarded with second round ties this week.

A patched up Perth Royale with new supremo Kulik in charge could not handle the pace of Douglas SC.

The final result did not do Ballinluig any justice and they were 4-0 up with 20 minutes remaining through Miller, Morrison and a Fraser double. But St James rallied to score three late goals.

Hutchison gave Methven the lead early on but found themselves level at the break. McMahon hit a double to put them in command with 20 to go but a late collapse, including and own goal by the keeper, allowed Caird Park the win.

A Price hat-trick was enough for Breadalbane to advance at the expense of Villareal. Bridgeton found themselves two down at the break through two dubious penalties.

Sherrit got one back but lost a third chasing an equaliser.

Letham Lads continue to impress and got an eye-opening win over St Michael’s to advance, as Newtyle did also by the odd goal in three in their derby with Alyth.

Vale of Atholl were level at one apiece at the break against cracks NCR, only to see the hard work thrown away after the restart when, in a crazy 10 minutes, they lost three goals and never recovered.

Bridge of Earn heaped more misery on recent finalists Roselea as McDonald pounced on a defensive header to fire home. St John’s, with a Carle double, and Coupar Angus both eased through while Stanley were soundly beaten by cup favourites Elmwood.

On League duty it was Vale of Earn who dominated and were three goals up early in the second-half before Balmoral hit back with a double before a late clincher secured the win for the Vale.

Almondvale finally showed that form is temporary as they demolished Star with Phillips in top form with a ha- trick.

Finally, Kenmore are still scratching round for a win as they lost to a solitary strike by McLean for Comrie.
