Perthshire Amateurs news Jan 23

OUR best wishes this week go to the Perthshire representatives in the North Of Tay fourth round as Newtyle Hearts travel to play Portcullis from division two of the Midlands.

Both shared good home 4-0 wins last week.

Ballinluig entertain Morgan Academy FP and this tie looks to close to call on paper and will no doubt go all the way.

Both Breadalbane and Vale Of Earn have aspirations and enough quality to go all the way and it was unfortunate both were paired in this round with the Vale slight favourites.

First round ties in Perth and District Cup all look like home bankers as lower league opposition take on the big boys.

Bridgeton in form should make short work of Royale while the Villareal dreams of a St Johns scalp will be brought down with a bump back to reality.

Fairfield are almost back to full strength to face Letham, buoyed by last week’s big win.

The Roselea in-fighting has started once again and Letham Lads could take full advantage in the final tie, if only for the fact that this is always when the champions are at their most dangerous.

Balmoral travel to Kinrossie looking to retain the Marshall cup while Wolfhill face the hardest opposition in Burrelton.

Auchterarder have terrible cup form and will do well to avoid another knockout delivered by Comrie in the West District cup.

On Perthshire Cup duty some divisional rivalry add some extra spice as Tay Thistle head up to Alyth to face their hosts while Rattray take the short hop and start favourites versus an under strength Kettins as rumours that gaffer Lindsay was seen buying some new boots.

In north Perthshire, the derby graces Blair Atholl in the Birks cup as Star entertain the Vale with a hint of upset in the air.

On league duty Bridge of Earn signal the return of their prolific scorer Carson by entertaining Coupar Angus.

Almondvale host Letham United at the Riverside in desperate need of points to kick start their 2009.

In division three there are three juicy ties on the cards as first Methven look to bounce back against the ever improving and ambitious Meigle Vics.

Errol go in search of that elusive first point at the expense of the Strath and finally the Gateway coaches with Kenmore breathing down their neck on the league table.
