Frozen out of the game

THERE was only one winner on Saturday and that was the weather.

It came as no great surprise that the games were called off.

The warning signs were already in evidence with no let up in the wintry conditions that had prevailed throughout the week, with all pitches brick hard and frost bound making them unplayable.

It was the same story throughout the east region with none of the 30 games over the five leagues played, so in effect it was a complete shutdown.

Coupar Angus are inviting applications for the post of manager/coach.

Derek Grier and Dave Martin were the co-managers at Coupar. Dave Martin has however departed to take over as manager of Dundee North End in succession to Eddie Wolecki who recently left the club.

Derek Grier will also move to the Dundee club but will remain at Foxhall Park at least until a new manager has been appointed and is prepared to stay on until the end of the season to help the new man if he wishes him to do so.

Coupar secretary John Stewart said: “We are sorry to lose Derek and Dave but we wish them well and we are grateful to Derek that he is prepared to stay on to help us out in the interim period at least.”

All enquiries re this vacancy should be directed to John Stewart, tel 01828 628488.

A number of the fixtures for this Saturday have been rescheduled to accommodate the GA Cup ties that were amongst last week’s casualties.

THE fixture list is now as follows:

Premier League – Musselburgh v Kinnoull.

Central League – Scone Thistle v Lochgelly A; Crossgates P v Jeanfield Swifts; Luncarty v Rosyth.

GA Cup third round – Bankfoot Athletic v Fortmartine; Broughty Athletic v Blairgowrie; Sunnybank v Coupar Angus.
