Perthshire Amateur FA news Feb 27

WITH the weather clearing, it looks good for the outstanding cup ties with Ballinluig and Vale of Earn going head to head in the Perthshire Cup.

St John’s host fierce rivals Roselea at Murray Park and, with the league conceded by Roselea, they will focus on cup success to salvage their season and will go into this match at full strength.

A couple of good divisional battles find Alyth entertaining Tay Thistle and Kettins await the visit of Rattray, with both home clubs starting slight favourites to advance. Letham have the long trip North to Pitlochry to face Vale of Atholl and although they are out of form, they should be too strong.

Newtyle have eyes on a Division Two berth next season with Letham United certainly heading the other way. Kinrossie entertain Bridgeton United in their outstanding Ashleigh tie.

In the league, Coupar Angus have been given permission by the clubs to continue with games while their appeal is heard and travel the short distance to face Balmoral United while Auchterarder entertain high-scoring but bottom club Breadalbane.

Fairfield are up next in the quest to try and take Burrelton Rovers’ 100 per cent league record. Almondvale, after their poor second half showing, travel to top dogs Stanley, smarting after their dropped points last week, while basement boys Star of Atholl await the visit of Wolfhill.

Perth Royale have new management at the helm and with some new recent signings should be optimistic in advance of their travels to Comrie. Going the same way are Meigle Vics and they look for a spark at the Strath.

Gateway and Kenmore yet again will try to get their tie to go ahead after a few postponements. Letham Lads are out of the title race but can still have a say by taking points off Methven. And it’s a case of top versus bottom as Errol travel to Villareal.
