Burrelton gets ready for festival of youth football

BURRELTON Rovers youth football team are hosting this year’s Strathmore Shield five-a-side festival.

The event has been running for 11 years and was previously held as an indoor tournament at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth and Blairgowrie Recreation Centre.

This year Rovers youth team manager Robert Bee is inviting teams to take part in the competition at Burrelton football park as part of a fundraising event for the BYFC on Sunday, June 21.

Age groups for the Strathmore Shield are U12, U14, U16 and U18. The competition is open to anyone who would enjoy a day of football and fun.

This year’s tournament will also include a penalty shoot-out competition and there will be a barbecue and raffle. The competition is being sponsored by Alan Bannerman, of the Red House Hotel, Coupar Angus.

Burrelton Rovers were formed in 2004 and have gone from strength to strength. This season they took part in their first cup final.

They are now a variety of fundraising events towards a trip to Gothenburg in Sweden on July 12.
