IN a glorious end to an impressive season, the Saints Club did the double and lifted the Surridge Sports League Cup at the expense of fierce rivals the Abbotsford.
The Abbey had dominated the early play and were rightly one up heading into the final quarter before old journeyman Billy Leith stooped low to take the tie into extra time.
At this point the Saints Club dominance, as they have shown in their league campaign in only dropping two points all season, came to the fore.
Wave after a wave of pressure resulted in hotshot Billy Carle netting a double with probably Saints clubs most consistent player Richy Hutchison sealing the win so captain Geddes can lift the silverware. In the Ward & Cairns trophy it was shock troops Donskies who started the brighter with a couple of very good chances to take the lead wasted before Andy Macdonald fire the Brig boys in front and one up at the break.
Both teams came out second half and served up an entertaining tie which could of went either way before MacDonald rounded off his hat trick in fine style to seal the win and his man of the match award from sponsor Tom Ward.
Many thanks to Fair City AFC for use of their park and facilities for the cup finals. Thanks to the sponsors Tom Ward of Ward & Cairns and Ian Duff at Surridge Sports and Bob Easton and Perth and Kinross Council for the assistance in the league.
Alan Ward has signalled his intention to step down with immediate effect and the League are open to applications for the positions of League and Match Secretary, Treasurer and Executive members.
