THE annual Strathmore Shield five-a-side event was held at Burrelton’s amateur football ground.
This was the first time the tournament had been played outdoors and the weather was kind.
The tournament was integrated into a fund-raising event for Burrelton Rovers Under-16s as they head off to the Gothia Cup in Sweden.
There were a total of 126 players from age groups ranging from under-12s to under-18s.
Teams were spread across the county – from Letham, Alyth, Spittalfield, Coupar Angus, Blairgowrie, Scone, Bridge of Earn and Burrelton.
The under-12s were extremely closely fought contests with a goal separating many matches.
The eventual winners were Coupar Angus A, defeating Letham Whites B in the final
The under-14s’ trophy was awarded to St John’s as they had to play the winners of the under-12 competition.
This was another close encounter with St John’s just edging it 2-1.
St John’s also competed in the under-16s’ competition and did themselves proud in reaching the semi-finals.
This competition was eventually won by local team Coupar Angus after they beat Galactico Velcons.
The under-18s event was won by the Socca Warriors who played some outstanding football.
This was no ordinary football tournament as it had a barbecue, raffle, stalls and a soaring high temperature.
The Burrelton youth football team would like to thank all the coaches, spectators and helpers for their support throughout the day.
The tournament was played in a competitive but sporting manner.
The event was sponsored by Alan Bannerman, of the Red House Hotel, Coupar Angus, and thanks are due to Irvines, of Blairgowrie, David Reid, of Burrelton, Simon Howie, of Perth, and Graeme Pallister at 63 Tay Street
