Bridge of Earn's Dunbarney Rovers lift twinning cup

YOUNG footballers from Bridge of Earn’s Dunbarney Rovers U15s defeated a team from Aschaffenburg at the weekend to lift the Perth 800 Twin Cities Cup.

The trophy was devised after local firefighter, Rab Middlemiss, travelled to Bavaria on an exchange trip involving Perth-based staff and their German counterparts.

During that trip, Rab – who coaches Dunbarney – struck-up a conversation with fellow football enthusiast Harald Deckert, who presides over Boys Soccer Club Schweinheim.

The Bavarian delegation arrived on Wednesday and were welcomed by Perth and Kinross Provost John Hulbert.

That evening, BSC Schweinheim played Bankfoot Athletic YFC U15s at the village’s Coronation Park.

The home side took an early lead, only to be pegged-back with 10 minutes to go by the determined German outfit.

Their five-day visit culminated in a contest for cup on Sunday at the Kintillo pitches in Bridge of Earn.

Dunbarney won the contest 5-0 and were presented the trophy by Provost Hulbert.
