Junior Football: The weekend heavy rain sees the first postponements of the season in the ACA League.

THE heavy rain that occurred over Friday and Saturday morning was responsible for the first cancellations of the season as it rendered the pitches at Bankfoot, Luncarty and Newburgh waterlogged and unplayable.

Kinnoull were at home to Penicuik and after just five minutes they found themselves a goal behind.

A long ball played forward from Penicuik caught out the Kinnoull defence and it was picked up by Johnny Harvey who made for goal. As keeper Steve McKinnie came of his line Harvey lobbed him from close on 25 yards.

Three minutes later Kinnoull’s trialist striker had a great chance to get his side back on level terms, but from the edge of the six yard box he dragged the ball into the side netting.

Midway through the half Penicuik went two - nil ahead when Steve McKinnie missed a free kick into his goalmouth. The ball fell to centre half Richard Campbell who was up with his attack and he side footed into the back of the net.

Ten minutes later Kinnoull went three nil behind. A great ball from Grant Killin released Johnny Harvey who ran on unimpeded to slot the ball past

the unprotected Steve McKinnie.

Penicuik then increased their lead when Grant Killin cut the ball back to Charlie Brigane and he cracked it into the corner of the net from around 15 yards to put his side four nil ahead at the interval.

Kinnoull surged into the attack from the restart and within minutes Adam O'Conner had tested keeper Billy Bald. A well struck shot from the edge of the penalty box saw the keeper rise to the occasion with good save.

Penicuik went five nil ahead on the hour mark when a tussle in the Kinnoull penalty box saw the ball break to Grant Killin who slammed it into the back of the net from five yards.

Three minutes later there was more woe for Kinnoull when they were reduced to ten men after their defender Jim Scott got a red card for retaliation.

Kinnoull didn’t give up however and pulled a goal back in 70 minutes. A free kick taken by Jordan Timmins found sub Chris Webster eight yards from the Penicuik goal and he made no mistake to beat the keeper.

Ten minutes later Kinnoull had pulled another goal back. A great pass from Lee Deans to Charlie Bradshaw, who had also came on as sub, saw him take the ball in his stride and smack it past the keeper from just inside the penalty box.

Penicuik retaliated to those set backs and they won a corner which was hit into the goalmouth where it was met by Grant Killin. His well placed header made it six two, completing the scoring and a rather miserable day for Kinnoull.

Scone Thistle were at home to Crossgates Primrose and they shared four goals and the points which was pretty fair result.

The first half saw play swing from end to end with both sides passing up chances.

Just as it looked as if the half would end goalless, Primrose grabbed the lead with a goal from Andy Smith in the 42nd minute.

Thistle came out with all guns blazing in the second half and within ten minutes they were back on level terms with a well worked and taken goal from Bruce McAdam.

Primrose retaliated and in 67 minutes they regained the lead

when a ball into the Thistle goalmouth wasn’t cleared and Steve McIntosh was left with the easy task of tapping it over the goal line.

Thistle shrugged of this further set back and in 79 minutes Andy Smith matched his namesake in the Primrose side by scoring a well taken goal to make it two all and that’s how the game ended.

Blairgowrie were at home to Kirrie Thistle who like their hosts were keen to take the points from this game and keep themselves within touching distance of the league leaders.

Play had been pretty evenly contested then in the 30th minute Blair broke the deadlock.

Darren Neave out on the right took a free kick which he hit to the back post of the Kirrie goal. The ball found their striker Jamie Duncan unmarked and he met it first time and blasted it into the back of the net.

Blairs joy at being in the lead lasted just two minutes. Kirrie full back Phil Donaldson picked up the ball well into his own half and he set of on a solo run.

He played a neat one two with Stuart Farquharson before chipping keeper Gordon O'Brien from the edge of the box as he came off his line and the scores were level.

There were just three minutes of the half remaining when Kirrie took the lead. They won a corner which was hit into the middle of the Blair penalty box. In the ensuing stramash, Kirrie striker Stuart Farquharson managed to connect with the ball to drive it through a forest of legs into the back of the net and give his side the lead at the interval.

Kirrie extended their lead nine minutes into the second half. A through ball deceived the Blair defence and was picked up by Stuart Farquharson who beat Gordon O'Brien for a second time to make it three - one.

A few minutes later Blair went four - one behind when Paul Cooney met a cross from the right and fired it past Keeper O'Brien from 12 yards.

Blair reduced the leeway in 72 minutes when Jamie Duncan beat the Kirrie keeper for a second time to make it four - two, completing scoring.

There were two incidents in the last ten minutes involving Blair players Richie Robertson and Craig Ferguson who both got their marching orders after they each picked up second cautions in separate incidents.

Coupar Angus, away to Lochee Harp fought out a lacklustre and goalless first half.

The game came to life ten minutes into the second half when Harp took the lead.

A ball was played into the Coupar penalty box which should have been cleared but Harp striker Mark Ramsay cottoned on to it and drilled it past the keeper from 15 yards.

Coupar strived hard for the equaliser and in 80 minutes they got the break through they deserved when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the Harp penalty box. It was taken by Danny Martin and he drilled it into the corner of the net.

Coupar pushed for the winner, and they had a couple of near misses but there was no more scoring.

The game ended at one – all and neither side would have much to complain about this final outcome.

There were two League Cup Finals played on Saturday. Glenrothes and Hill o’ Beath met in the ACA Sports Final and the "Haws" won by two - one.

Forfar West End and Tayport were the DJ Laing Finalists and it ended all square at two apiece. West End went on to win the penalty shoot out by four - three.
