IT was a triumphant day for Perthshire clubs in the North of Tay Cup as both Roselea and Coupar Angus upset the odds on their travels at Midlands opposition.
Doubles for Farqharson and Gray eased Coupar into a quarter final meeting with Roselea, who done it the hard way to see of The Firies in extra time by the odd goal in seven.
St Johns were 1-0 down with the run of play after 19 minutes against Alyth with a semi final spot up for grabs, but got back on level terms after 26 minutes when a Campbell cross was met by McGillivray to score with a good header.
Quinn doubled their score, before McGillivray made it 3-1 at the break to take his tally to 20 for the season. The second half was poor with both clubs not making chances, until Sweeney popped on 69 minutes to bullet a header and also join the 20 goals club.
Not a good day for Comrie in advance of their North of Tay quarter final as they fell to Auchterarder in the West district cup as a Maher double secured a semi final spot for the Primrose.
Burrelton managed to sneak a league victory with a late show against Balmoral. With the wind at their backs, Balmoral dominated the first half and were two goals up going into the break, however, with the last chance of the first half, a corner was met by Brown, who fumbled the ball over the line.
Both teams huffed and puffed in the second half, but with 10 minutes to go, Smith finally made the break through smashing the ball high into the net and with the momentum turned in Burrelton’s favour, it was no surprise when an unmarked Russell placed the ball under the on rushing keeper.
The game of the day in Division Two was at Seven Acres as the Lads were minutes away from causing an upset, defeating league leaders Fairfield until a late penalty was converted to secure a point for Gormley’s charges.
Kelly top scored with a hat trick for the Lads, justifying his inclusion in the Representative match for Tuesday night against a Midlands select at Foxhall Park, home of Coupar Angus JFC.
In Division Three, Meigle continued to find some form and are battling hard to get off the bottom thanks mainly to the recent goal blitz of Kippen, who again scored either side of each half to help his Meigle match the four goals registered by the Strath and earn a share of the spoils.
