Junior Football: All the scores and action from the weekend’s matches.

JEANFIELD, Kinnoull, Bankfoot all finished on top in their GA Cup ties while Luncarty’s hopes of progressing in the competition were brought to an end when they lost their away tie with Downfield.

Bankfoot took their second Super League scalp of the season when they ousted their hosts Forfar West End by a very convincing 4-1 margin.

This was no shock result as the West End are having a nightmare of a season so far and the Bankies were strong tips to make it through round two and they didn’t let the forecasters down.

Bankies got the first of their goals after just three minutes. David Fyfe broke down the left and played the ball to Ross Mitchell who skinned his defender and crossed the ball to the far post where it was met by Stewart Allan who was left with a fairly simple task of knocking it over the goal line.

Bankies only took a few more minutes to increase their lead. David Fyfe let go a vicious volley from 20 yards which was right on target and the keeper could only parry it.

The ball broke away from him and was snapped up by Alan Stewart who took a couple of steps forward rounded the keeper and planted the ball into the back of the net.

The game had only reached the half hour mark when the Bankies struck again.

Paul Anderson had made his way into the West End penalty box and before he had the chance to get a shot in he was brought down from behind.

Danny Dobbie was entrusted with the resultant spot kick and he made no mistake as he crashed the ball past the keeper to make it 3-0 and that’s how the score stood at the break.

Eight minutes into the second half Bankies made it 4-0.

Danny Dobbie collected the ball in his own half and set of on a mazy run that took him past number of opponents.

He then laid the ball to Alan Stewart who applied the perfect finish to his team mates great piece of play by slotting the ball past the keeper and into the corner of the net for his second goal of the game.

The Bankies had chances to add to their score but it didn’t happen and with seven minutes of the game remaining West End who to their credit had kept battling away, got their efforts rewarded when Gavin Hood cracked home a free kick from 20 yards to make it 4-1 and that’s how the game ended.

Jeanfield Swifts maintained their unbeaten run at their Riverside Stadium with a 4- win over their opponents East Craigie and it was well deserved victory although the young Craigie side played very well.

Swifts, after a fair bit of pressure and a couple of very scoreable chances that they failed to put away, took the lead in 15 minutes.

A good move saw the ball played from Jamie McKenzie to John Anderson who in turn laid it off to Gavin Anderson who shot into the corner of the net from the edge of the penalty box.

Craigie had a great chance in 36 minutes when their striker Paul Constable was left with only the keeper to beat but he blasted the ball over the bar from the edge of the penalty box.

Three minutes later and they were back on level terms with a terrific strike from Sam McDonald who turned his marker and while he was, what must have been around 30 yards from the Swifts goal, unleashed a volley that flew into the top right hand corner of the net to make it 1-1 and that’s how the score stood at the interval.

Swifts moved into the attack from the restart and they hit a purple patch between the 57th and 67th minutes when they surged into a 4-1 lead.

The first of this threesome was when a combined move between Tony Holt and Steve McManus wrong footed the Craigie defence and the ball was played through to Paddy Deane.

The striker carried it forward a few paces before smacking it past the keeper from 18 yards for what was a well worked and taken goal.

Five more minutes and it was 3-1. Jamie Reid burst down the right and his cross into the middle of the penalty box was met by John Anderson who beat the keeper with a header.

Swifts continued to pressurise the Craigie defenders and with only two more minutes on the clock they were 4-1 ahead.

They were awarded a free-kick on the left and about 20 yards from the Craigie goal.

It was taken by Gavin Anderson, flighted into the penalty box to John Anderson and once again the striker did the necessary with a header.

Swifts continued to do most of the attacking but they didn’t add to their score.

Craigie whose raids on the Swift’s goal were of a much more sporadic nature failed to dent Swifts lead.

Kinnoull at home to BrechinVics found themselves a goal behind after just seven minutes, and to rub salt into the wound it was an own goal which was scored by Sean Fleming when he met with a cross from the left and in attempting to clear the ball it sliced of his boot and landed in the back of the net.

A couple of minutes later Kinnoull came close to getting back on level terms.

Daryn Smith hit a well struck shot which was right on target but was saved by the keeper. It broke away from him and fell to Chris Webster, his shot looked a homer but the goalie recovered in time to dive and push the ball round the post for a corner that brought no joy.

Kinnoull did manage to square the game in 19 minutes when a combined move between Jordan Timmins and Daryn Smith saw Smith cross the ball into the Vics penalty box where it was met by Chris Webster.

His shot hit a defender on the goal line and was cleared but the referee adjudged that it was over the line and awarded Kinnoull a goal. It was a decision that certainly didn’t go down at all well with the Vics.

Kinnoull continued to have the lion’s share of the attacking play but they failed to make any clear cut chances and the half looked as if it was going to finish all square until the final minute.

Jordan Timmins made tracks down the left and his cross from the bye line was met by Chris Webster. His close range header cannoned of the post, hit the keeper and landed in the back of the net and Kinnoull were ahead.

Ten minutes into the second half Sean Fleming played a through ball to Chris Webster in the penalty box and Chris saw the keeper come rushing of his line.

He deftly flicked the ball over him and into the back of the net to complete his hat-trick and put his side 3-1 ahead.

In the final minute of the game theVics were awarded a free-kick which was taken by Ryan Young and he smashed it into the back of the net for a spectacular goal but again much to the Vics chagrin the ref said no goal as he signalled it was an indirect free and gave Kinnoull a goal -kick.

Luncarty were away to Premier League side Downfield and by midway through the first half the Bleachers were trailing 3-0, Kit Bremner, Joe Tront (penalty) and Simon Murray were the goal scorers.

A minute before the break Scott McKain pulled one back for the Bleachers who had a much better second half but failed to reduce the leeway

Downfield made it 4-1 in 81 minutes, Murray Grant was the scorer.

In the North League Blairgowrie and Coupar Angus both ended the day without a point.

Blair were away to Arbroath Vics and lost by the odd goal in five.

The Vics were two goals ahead at the interval, Mark Fotheringham was the first scorer in eight minutes while the second came from a controversial penalty awarded a couple of minutes before the break against Blair keeper Gordon O’Brien who the ref adjudged had impeded a Vics player.

It certainly wasn’t a decision that went down well with Blair. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the award were it didn’t deter Gary Warren from sticking the spot kick.away.

Gurdon Pirie reduced the leeway for Blair on the hour mark. Ten minutes later Ryan Owbridge restored Vics two-goal lead but within a matter of minutes Blair’s James Simpson met with a cross and slammed it into the roof of the Vics net and it was 3-2.

Blair strove hard for the equaliser and it was deserved but it just didn’t happen for them.

Coupar Angus were on the receiving end as they went down to their hosts Montrose Roselea 7-0.

The scoreline tells its own story.
