FRIENDS and family will gather at McDiarmid Park on Sunday to stage a memorial football match in memory of Kevin McLean, who lost his life in a Carse of Gowrie car crash a year ago.
The popular 23-year-old electrician died in a collision on the Errol to St Madoes road.
Now, in a poignant tribute to Kevin, who grew-up in Perth’s Letham area, friends plan to raise money for a commemorative plaque.
Yesterday, Perth College student Craig Clark (25), a long-time friend from their Letham youth club days, said: “Kevin is sadly missed and we thought a football match would be a nice way of remembering our pal.
“He was a massive St Johnstone fans and loved his football. Some of the lads who are playing on Sunday were together at Wolfhill and referee Anton Brown also played with the amateur team.
“Kevin was a really popular guy with friends from all walks of life. I had known him from our days at the Kids in Letham Association and he went on to help out at the youth club.
“It was a tragedy and we didn’t want to let the anniversary pass without marking it. Kevin is always in our thoughts. He was always up for a game of football so we thought this was appropriate. Saints have been very supportive.”
Kevin joined EW Edwardson in 2006 and had been earmarked for a managerial role.
Craig, Ian Hutton and Sean Allan have pulled together plans for Sunday’s game, inviting Kevin’s family and girlfriend Maree.
The memorial match starts at 4pm on the astroturf pitch at McDiarmid Park.
