Perth Phoenix Junior men gain their Glaswegian victory

Glasgow City 71

Perth Phoenix Junior Men 83

THIS was a more comfortable victory than the final scoreline suggests and at no time during the game were Phoenix behind in the scoring.

Perth power forward Jamie Summerton started the game positively and hit 11pts in the first period.

Glasgow City however exploited a number of openings in the Perth defence to score a number of relatively easy layups to keep themselves in the game.

For Phoenix, Jamie Summerton top scored with 25pts, with Ben Warrington (23) and Daniel Ghamgosar (22) proving significant support. Glasgow City’s R McGregor was game top scorer with 31pts.

Glasgow Rens 117

Perth Phoenix Cadet Men 31

THE young Perth team were outplayed by the older and more experienced Glasgow Rens team.

The Rens executed their game plan superbly.

Rens coach Josh Tackie played an effective full court press when Perth were trying to put the ball in to play and this resulted in numerous handling errors by Phoenix, most of which Rens converted. Similarly the exceedingly quick forwards from Rens snapped up any loose passes, with baskets resulting. Phoenix also got in to some foul trouble quite early in the game.

The only consolation for Perth was the court time gained by the whole squad and hopefully the players will appreciate how important strong deference and more effective team work will be to achieving results later in the season.

On Saturday, the Cadet Men and Junior Men have away fixtures against City of Edinburgh Kings. The Cadet Men tip off at Portobello High School at 11am, whilst the Junior Men are in action at 3pm.

The Phoenix Cadette Women do not have a league fixture this weekend.
