Morris' deal with St Johnstone likely

SAINTS were yesterday closing in on the signature of midfield star Jody Morris.

The club has stepped-up negotiations with the former Chelsea player in recent days and all the indications are that a deal is likely to be struck within the next couple of days.

Play-maker Morris (29) is set to commit himself to the Perth cause after impressing during seven first-team appearances following his shock, short-term switch to McDiarmid Park at the end of February.

The former England U21 international has spent recent days house hunting in Glasgow and is set to uproot his family from their London home.

With Morris hugely popular with the St Johnstone faithful, capturing his signature would represent a major coup for manager Derek McInnes, who is poised to see off interest from a number of SPL clubs.
