ST Johnstone players have been given detailed fitness programmes to tackle over the summer break.
Assistant manager Tony Docherty yesterday confirmed it was an integral part of the new regime plans mapped out by Derek McInnes and himself to make sure the team hit the ground running.
Personnel are also being monitored by a dietician.
Docherty said: “It’s important the lads enjoy a rest and their holidays. But they have their own schedules and will be gathering in groups at various places to train together.
“The aim is to maximise their individual potential. Derek was the hardest working and most committed player I’ve worked with. The aim here is to make the most of each player’s ability and so far, response has been good.”
At the end of the campaign striker Peter MacDonald underwent hernia surgery but he will be ready for pre-season.
The Perth management team have a list of signing targets, with a striker and the left-back slot getting priority status.
In addition, it’s likely Saints will again pursue the loan deal route next season.
Released defender Andy Lawrie is being linked with a Stirling move; keeper Kevin Cuthbert is interesting several clubs – Queen of the South, Livi and Dunfermline.
