Making way for the next batch of hopefuls

SAINTS boss Derek McInnes was running the rule over a batch of young hopefuls yesterday.

A dozen teenagers were put through their paces under the watchful eyes of the manager and youth coaches Paul Sheerin and Tommy Campbell as training ground activities resumed at McDiarmid Park.

“We had 12 boys in today, all aged 16,” McInnes told PA Sport yesterday.

“They’re not all signed, and we’re still having a look at some of them.

“It was good to get outside and working again.”

Meanwhile, as Saints prepare to depart on Thursday for a week-long training camp at Wolverhampton, the gaffer continues to search for players to bolster his first team squad.

Top priority remains a new left-back to replace the departed Goran Stanic.

“I’m still looking to bring one or two in,” said McInnes.

“I’ve been looking at plenty of dvds and sounding out contacts.

“We’ve ruled a few players out recently but I’m not going to start panicking.

“It’s a slow process but we are trying to get the best we can to improve the team.”
